Free Crochet Pattern – Baby Mermaid Tail Sleeping Bag

There is a massive trend of stitching mermaids tails at the moment and they look awesome, however it was somehow becoming my crochet Achilles heel. I was finding I couldn’t find patterns that suited my needs – too short, too wide, too chunky, too thin, too textured. This list was endless. I wanted to create a baby friendly sleeping pattern but could not find something that was suitable so the only thing for it was to create my own pattern. This is surprisingly if you have been crocheting for a while as you spot patterns on how items form. I’d recommend giving it ago if you want to create something specific to you.

For my needs I wanted to create a baby mermaid tail using double knit yarn.  I find double knit baby friendly and the selection of yarns in my area is more then Aran or chunky. I also wanted the pattern to be wider and more snuggly, something I was not finding with other patterns on the internet.

Materials I used

5mm crochet hook – I’m currently using these hooks from Amazon. They are an absolute bargain and really easy to crochet with.

Yarn: Marriner Mermaid Double Knit in Carnival (Yes it is called mermaid – what are the odds). I only need one ball and still had loads left (over 40g). You can purchase it from Amazon here.
