Free Cross Stitch Pattern – Russian Dolls and Buttons

So far my blog has focused on crochet but I also love to cross stitch. My Nan started teaching me when I was six years old and I have been doing it now for 23 years (you can do the maths on how old I am now).

The great thing about cross stitch is that it is the perfect stress relief in these busy times. Why wouldn’t stabbing something a thousand times and ending up with something pretty not be satisfying.

I also think there are some awesome designers out their that are creating items that reflect are modern times. I remember my Nan spending months stitching items that looked like they had just some out of Victorian Britain. This craft really has something for everyone.

For me I like creating quick stitch items – something I can pick up and put down and it is not going to take years to finish. I also like designing patterns too. These are something that I created at the end of last year and I wanted to share as a freebie pattern.

Over the next couple of days I would like to share these patterns with you. The first is ‘Russian Dolls are just full of themselves.’

10410509_10153312838206914_5064191359362807756_n

I stitched the item on white 14 count Aida measuring 5″ x 7″ using a needle size 24.

I used DMC standard cotton colour 776.

Buttons are available from Barrett’s Buttons – an Etsy shop that just sells buttons.

Below is the pattern.

I am happy for you to sell your finished items but please do not distribute the pattern without credit or try to sell the pattern for money. That’s just not cool!!!!! Remember, sharing is caring.

Hope you enjoy stitching. Please send me images of your finished products.

Until next time

Stripy Newborn Baby Hat – Free Crochet Pattern

12924392_10153510857051914_8118934453759247185_n

To accompany the stripy cardigan I designed, I wanted to create some accessories too. I had loads of yarn left over so I thought a hat would be ideal.

Materials

I used Marriana Super Sofy Baby Double Knit in Mint and White. I have written a blog post here about it.

Hook: 4.5mm

To create the stripes you need to change the colour of the yarn in every row. I have not added this fact to the pattern. Do not turn after every row.

Pattern written in US terminology.

Abbreviations

ch:  chain

sc: single crochet

dc: double crochet

sts: stitches

*****Every dc in this pattern is worked into the back loop of the stitches in the previous round *****

12670741_10153510857076914_4934753737758058144_n

Row 1: Ch 3. 11dc in third chain from hook. Join to first dc. (11 sts)

Row 2: Ch 2. 2dc in each st around. Join to first dc. (22 sts)

Row 3: Ch 2. 1dc in st, 2dc in the next st. Repeat around and join final dc to first dc. (33sts)

Row 4: Ch 2. 1dc in the next 2 sts, 2dc in the next st. Repeat around and join final dc to first dc. (44sts)

Row 5: Ch 2. 1dc in the next 10 sts, 2dc in the next st. Repeat around and join final dc to first dc. (48sts)

Row 6 : Ch 2. 1 dc in the nest 11 sts, 2dc in the nest st. Repeat around and join final dc to first dc.(52sts)

Row 7-12: Ch 2. 1dc in each st around.  Join final dc to the first dc. (52sts)

Row 13: Ch 1. 1sc in each st around making sure the stitch is created in the back loop of the sts in the previous round. (52sts)

Row 14: Ch 1. 1sc in each st around in both loops of the sts in the previous round. (52 sts)

Fasten off.

And there you have it. A newborn baby hat. The one I created has a circumference of approximately 36cm.

Hope you enjoy creating the hat.

Yarn Review: Marriner Super Soft Baby Double Knit

1934673_10153510563196914_7383708803075836332_n

I wanted to share with you this awesome yarn that I have been using. It is Marriner Super Soft Baby Double Knit and is available in white, cream, yellow, mint, pink and blue.  These pastel tones are great for a baby project. Marriner Supersoft is the softest yarn I’ve used by Marriner. It is 100% Acrylic.

It is the yarn I used for the Stripy Crochet New Born Baby Cardigan (follow the link for the free pattern).

12924417_10153504762061914_3326338526199232430_n

I have used it to make blankets too. It is super soft, well it is in the name, and washes up well on a 30 degree cycle.

It is also great value for money. At only £1.25 for 100g from Marriner’s website it is a bargain too.

If you’ve used this yarn please comment and share what you have created using it.

I’m off to create a hat using the mint and white. I will post my results when I’ve finished.

Enjoy

Stripy Baby Cardigan Crochet Pattern

I’m currently at that age where me and my partners friends keep announcing they are expecting children. During this exciting time, I love creating gifts and keepsakes and with the number of baby shower invitations a handmade gift always goes down well. I designed this cardigan pattern as a go to for a little project. The white and green is perfect if you don’t know the gender of the child but also can be created in gender friendly tones.  I love stripes!!!!!!!!

Before you start:

Materials: Marriner Super Soft Baby Double Knit in White and Green. 1 ball of each colour.

I purchased this yarn from Shaws, my local shop for wool. They have a great selection and super prices.
